Our Governance

The Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church is completely self-governing, as are all Unitarian Universalist congregations. This tradition, known as Congregational Polity, dates back to 1648, and establishes the independence of each congregation to manage its own affairs and to call its own minister. Following a comprehensive revision of our bylaws approved by congregational vote in September of 2017, our church governance structure is as follows:

Board of Trustees 2024

Our church is governed by our bylaws, and by a Board of Trustees. The Board meets monthly to address church policy issues.

  • President: Pat Johnson
  • At-Large: Jay McLauchlan, Jim Seavey, Marylou Bassani
  • Ex-Officio: Reverend Janet Parsons

2024 Church Officers

  • Finance Chair: Roger Garberg
  • Treasurer: Jeff Henderson
  • Clerk: Gail Campbell
  • Moderator: JoeAnn Hart
