David Bergeron
David Bergeron is approaching 20 years at the Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church as Music Director/Organist. Before his tenure at the ICC David served as organist and choir master at a variety of churches and schools where he conducted choral ensembles of all ages. He served as dean of the Merrimack Valley Chapter of the American Guild of Organists where he established a scholarship fund for young organists.
Since moving to Gloucester in 1991 he has also played a leadership role in the fishing industry. He was the founding executive director of the Massachusetts Fishermen’s Partnership (MFP) and served as a founding member and treasurer of the Commercial Fishermen of America. He was responsible for building the coalition that created the Fishing Partnership Health Plan (FPHP), a non-profit created in 1997 that provides health coverage to 2000 previously uninsured members in the fishing community and is recognized as a demonstration for health care reform. He led fishing industry legislative advocacy in the passage of the Massachusetts Oceans Act, the first comprehensive oceans management statute in the nation. As vice president of the FPHP he is primarily responsible for working closely with members of the fishing community to develop new ways to enhance the health and safety of fishing families.
Educated in music with degrees in organ performance from Stetson University School of Music and the New England Conservatory, David enjoys pursuing his first vocation at the ICC. He resides in Gloucester with his wife Judi, and they are the proud, combined parents of seven beautiful children, four cats and one dog!
